Broussard Police will be conducting an Active Shooter training exercise at Broussard middle school this morning.
Residents in the area may hear gunfire when the exercise begins at 8:00 a.m.
Chief Brannon Decou says officers will be safely discharging several gunshots using blank rounds during the training in order to help educators become familiar with the sounds and smell of gunshots.
Police will have barricades placed on the entrance and exits of the school during the hour long exercise.
Chief Decou emphasizes that there will be no students on campus today and the training is designed for educators and administrators only.
