BROUSSARD, La. (KLFY)-UPDATE: Broussard police released additional information about the armed robbery of a bank that led to the shooting a female teller this morning.

Authorities said the suspect entered the front door of the bank at 802 Albertson Parkway. The second set of doors were locked, so the suspect then shot the glass out and entered through the broken glass.

He then jumped onto the bank teller’s counter and demanded money.

He then moved behind the counter and retrieved an unknown amount of US currency from a teller’s register. The suspect then departed the bank on foot and fled north behind the bank toward a wood line.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 6’ tall with a thin build.  He was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt with dark colored pants and a white t-shirt beneath the sweater. He was wearing camouflage gloves and used a silver revolver in the commission of the crime.

The schools were released from lockdown at 1:30 p.m., authorities said.

3:30 p.m: Community First Bank released the following statement about a female employee shot earlier today during an armed robbery:

“The Community First Bank family requests your prayers for all the employees and customers who were present during an armed robbery this morning, especially our employee that was injured.  We are doing all that we can to aid in the investigation, but our primary focus is on her well-being. We appreciate the prompt response of the authorities.”

12 p.m.:  A bank teller was shot during an armed robber earlier today on Albertson Parkway.

According to Broussard Police Chief Brannon Decou, the suspect walked into the bank, brandished a gun and fired one shot.

The victim is listed in stable condition.

The suspect remains at large, authorities said. Other agencies including Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office and FBI are assisting with the investigation.
