We begin with breaking news out of Lafayette, where one person was injured and others ran for cover as shots rang out in Brown Park off East Pont de Mouton Road.

Police units rushed to the scene after the shots were fired and found one person, a 22-year-old, injured who was taken away by ambulance.

Officers interviewed witnesses to try and determine what happened at this event to promote non-violence and community unity.

UPDATE:  Lafayette Police have confirmed that one person was shot Tuesday night in Brown Park on E. Pont de Mouton Road in Lafayette.

Corporal Bridgette Dugas said the victim, a 22-year-old man, has been transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

No suspects have been arrested.

Eyewitnesses tell KLFY that as the shots rang out, hundreds of  people who were on scene began running in different directions. 

ORIGINAL: There is a heavy police presence in the area near Brown Park in Lafayette.

Eyewitnesses tell KLFY that they heard multiple gunshots in the area of the 1000 block of E. Pont de Mouton Road in the past 10 minutes, and that people can be seen running in different directions.  

We contacted Lafayette Police who confirmed that there is currently a heavy police presence in the area and that more officers were enroute. They would not confirm our reports of shots fired.
