A new alert system is in place in Acadia Parish School District. It’s to improve the communication and transportation issues with busses. 

This new alert system is a collaboration with Acadia Parish School System and Student Transportation Services (STS), their transportation provider. 

Superintendent Scott Richard says it’s a very positive thing. 

“As the school year progressed, we realized that we had a gap in communication and that we needed to be proactive and reporting issues and concerns to the parents that we serve,” adds Scott Richard, Superintendent of Schools, Acadia Parish School System. 

One proactive solution is a text alert real-time communication system designed to improve bus transportation issues.

“There’s a number of reasons why buses are delayed or there’s changes in routes,” explains Richard. “If a bus has a breakdown, we let folks know that a substitute bus is on the way.” 

To subscribe to the text alerts regarding bus transportation, you can go to the Acadia Parish School System’s website. 

Scroll down on the left side toolbar where there is an icon that says “Bus Alerts.” 

Click on that icon and it takes you to the registration page where you can request text or email alerts regarding the specific bus numbers a student rides. 

“We have all the buses delineated out by the geographical areas in our parish. Basile, Branch, Church Point, Crowley, Egan, Eunice, Evangeline, Iota, Mire, Rayne, Richard, and Ward 5 which is the Midland Morse, Estherwood, Mermentau area.” 

News 10 reports, “What’s the response so far from parents and administrators?” 

 “The response has been very positive, overwhelmingly positive, and appreciative of the fact that we’ve made the effort to be able to communicate to parents and students,” Richard says.
