Pierre C. Shadeaux, a nutria rat from Zooisana Zoo, has determined winter is over for Acadiana.
The Cajun Groundhog saw his shadow in the early hours Saturday.
So what does this mean? Hot humid temperatures are on their way.
If Pierre would not have seen his shadow, Acadiana would still have weeks of cooler temperatures.
As Ray Escuriex, Grand Marshal of Cajun Groundhog day said, “Well time to get out the boats, and lets go golf today!”
Meanwhile Punxsutawney Phil, America’s most famous groundhog, did not see his shadow Saturday and predicted an early spring. This is good news for those in the East coast and the Midwest.
Groundhog day was officially Cajunized in 1999.
Former Daily Iberian Publisher Will Chapman came up with the idea 20 years ago. According to the Daily Iberian, Chapman was trying to find something to write about. That’s when he decided, “What does Louisiana care about six more weeks of summer?”
