LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – If you’ve driven by the Cajundome recently you might not notice any changes to the outside, but construction crews have been working around the clock to ensure that when guests walk through the doors on December 1 the Cajundome will look completely different.
The renovation work at the Cajundome started May 23 and now, a month and a half later, renovations are right on schedule.
Operations Director Phil Ashurst said the renovation period is completed in sections. He said right now several projects are taking place under the dome.
“The lighting in the arena, that’s a different project. The roof is a different project. We ordered concession equipment as a different project, so all of those things are coming together as one big project under several different contracts basically.”
Since renovations began, Ashurst said the number one concern residents have is the roof.
“That’s the biggest question I get ‘when are you going to fix the roof’. It’s just one of those things that are on the list of things to do and it will be done before December 1st.”
Ashurst said although it might not look like much on the outside right now, he is pleased with the hard work taking place on the inside.
“Progress is going very well. The demolition is just about done.”
Ashurst said demolishing the stadium seats will be finished this week and crews will begin installing the new seats on August 1.
