A car plunged into the Vermilion River at the Beaver Park Boat Launch Friday night.

According to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, one person survived without any injuries but had to  taken to a local hospital for observation.

As of Saturday afternoon, the sunken vehicle was located 1.3km downstream of the Beaver Park Boat Launch.

Public Information Office John Mowell said dive teams are unable to complete a full recovery of the vehicle at this time.  

“Plans are underway to recover the vehicle next week,” Mowell said. 

“We are asking members of the public who are planning on boating in the Vermillion River to please use caution near the Beaver Park buoy.”
