There’s been an increase in car burglaries and car thefts along Davis and Granger streets in Jennings.
“It began to escalate last week. Midway through Wednesday night was our first reporting of a theft of a vehicle,” said Jennings Police Det. Trevor Bullock.
He adds said it’s unusual for the police department to see vehicle thefts. Typically, the reports they receive are about car burglaries or break-ins only.
“A lot of times it’s the result of somebody seeing something inside a vehicle– maybe something valuable,” he said. “They go to break in and they notice that the keys are in there so they go ahead and they take the entire vehicle. So what we try to tell our residents is to lock your vehicle doors and to take your keys with you.”
Now that residents are hearing about the thefts and break-ins from their neighbors and police, they’re taking precautions. Some are ever installing security cameras.
Bullock adds that having those security cameras present can help their investigations tremendously, “We recommend to people if they can’t afford a full surveillance system, is to purchase a cheap hunting camera or something like that,” the detective said.
