IBERVILLE PARISH, La. (KLFY) – A Carencro man is now dead after a boat crash Thursday afternoon, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

The incident happened around 1 p.m. between the Ramah and Whiskey Bay exits underneath I-10.

Adam Einck, a spokesperson for the LDWF, said Justin Viator, 31, was riding in a 15-foot aluminum boat operated by his father when the boat hit an interstate piling.

Both men into the water. Viator’s father was picked up shortly after the crash by a passing boater and was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Lafayette.

Authorities do not believe the father’s injuries are life-threatening. Search crews found the body of Justin Viator in the Whiskey Bay area around 2:30 p.m.

Einck said neither men was wearing a personal flotation device. Officials do not suspect alcohol as a factor in the crash.

Justin Viator’s body has been turned over to the Iberville Parish Coroner’s Office to determine an official cause of death.

The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office assisted the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries in the search.
