The Andre Street drainage project is a major project for the City of Carencro. It’s estimated to be costing about $3.3 million.

The city says the contractor anticipates completing the project as scheduled in March.

“In this case he has said whe he has left to do.  If he can get started sometime in January, he’s going to get it done,” says Chauvin

Chauvin says it’s a concrete lining project for the coulee which is the main drainage artery through Carencro. He adds residents living near the coulee will see additional improvements.

“We’re putting in drains to drain those properties into the Coulee,” says Chauvin.

He notes that the recent flooding in Oak Springs near Hidden oaks was not in the city. Chauvin says that’s an un-incorporated area.

Moreover, the Andre Street Drainage Project serves the City of Carencro. We’re widening it, we’re deepening it and we’re concrete lining it; so in the future we’re going to have good flow.”

On a smaller scale, the city also has a street crew cleaning ditches to prevent them from spillover.   “We’re doing it now because of the rain that’s coming.  It’s supposed to be some heavy rain today and tomorrow,” explains Carencro’s Assistant Supervisor of the Gas and Street Dept., Kevin Baque.
