Carencro, La. (KLFY) – Carencro will soon be home to a new FedEx and the mayor says he looking forward to the job opportunities it will bring to the area.
Part of the former Evangeline Downs Racetrack will be the new home of FedEx. An Alabama-based company, SAAD Development Corp. bought the land for 11 million dollars. Carencro Mayor Glenn Brasseaux said the lot is an ideal location.
“We’ve always said that we’re at the heart of I-49 and I-10, so I think that had a lot to do with it.”
The 230,000 square foot site will house both a distribution facility and a security building, and they are not wasting time to start construction.
“The plan is to start almost immediately, once they get approval from the fire marshal and other regulating agencies,” said Brasseaux.
Brasseaux said he is looking forward to the hundreds of jobs FedEx will bring to the area. Brasseaux said Carencro has grown tremendously over the past few years.
“That whole area has been developing for a few years. Walmart has broken ground just this week, so our future is looking up,” said Brasseaux.
The new FedEx should be up and running by next spring.
