The “Cell Phone Coop” challenges families to put down the cell phone and enjoy an uninterrupted meal with each other.
Brad Williams, a Chick-fil-A Operator in Suwanee, Georgia, came up with the idea.
“We really want our restaurant to provide a sense of community for our customers, where family and friends can come together and share quality time with one another,” said Williams. “But as we all know, technology increasingly demands more of our time and can be a big distraction, even while we’re eating. This got me thinking about what we could do to reduce this distraction during meals.”
The “Cell Phone Coop” is a small square box where family members put their phone in during the meal. If you don’t touch your phone during the entire meal, you receive a free Chick-fil-A Icedream.
“The challenge has completely taken off,” says Williams.
“We have families who aren’t successful the first time and come back to try again.
We even have people asking to take the boxes home with them! Our whole community is talking about it.”
The challenge is currently in about 150 Chick-fil-A restaurants around the country and you’ll have to contact your local restaurant to see if they participate in the challenge.
