Church Point Police are investigating an armed robbery that happened Monday night at Fred’s Dollar Store on South Main Street.

Police Chief Dale Thibodeaux said they received a call around 8 p.m. that an unidentifired male had entered the store brandishing a black automatic pistol.

Chief Thibodeaux said the suspect was wearing  a bandana across half of his face, a gray hoodie with gray sweatpants and black slipper shoes.

With surveillance cameras in the area, police were able to see that the suspect ran to a vehicle that was parked on the side of the store and got into the vehicle and headed west towards South Broadway.

“There was two employees in the store and he pointed the gun at the employees and had them open the cash registers and give them the money. He also had them get the money out of the safe which was in the office. They gave him the money and he had them walk to the rear of the store.”

Police say its undetermined how much exactly he stole but they think it’s around $5,000.
