UPDATE (5/10/2016): The boil advisory has been lifted for the City of Abbeville.


Vermilion Parish School Board Superintendent Jerome Puyau said, “The safety of our children is paramount and so if we can cancel school these two days I think it’s the best thing that we would have to do to ensure the safety of our children.”The following schools in Abbeville will remain closed Tuesday, May 10, 2016 due to a continued boil water advisory:

Eaton Park Elementary School

Harvest Time Christian Academy (school year over)

Herod Elementary School

Mount Carmel Elementary School

Lighthouse Christian Middle and High Schools

J.H. Williams Middle School

Abbeville High School

Vermilion Catholic High School –  9th, 10th and 11th graders do not report to school Tuesday.The following students will have school on Tuesday, May 10:

Vermilion Catholic High 12th graders need to report to school for exams at 9:00am. Faculty and staff need to report to school at 8:00am.


UPDATE (2:26 p.m.) The City of Abbeville has issued the following news release about today’s boil advisory:


Michelle Rupert, Principal of Harvest Time Christian Academy says the school will also be closed today due to the water boil advisory in effect in Abbeville.


Several schools in Vermilion Parish will be closed today due to the city’s water boil advisory.

Principal of Lighthouse Christian Middle and High Schools Tiffany Spriggans says her schools will be closed today.

According to Principal Jackie Trahan, Mt. Carmel Elementary and Vermilion Catholic High Schools will also be closed.

Vermilion Parish School Board Superintendent Jerome Puyau adds that Abbeville High, J.H. Williams Middle, Herod Elementary and Eaton Park Elementary Schools will be closed today.

All Vermilion Parish School Board central office employees are to report to work today.


ABBEVILLE, La. (KLFY) – The City of Abbeville is under a water boil advisory.

According to Mayor Mark Piazza, the advisory will be in effect until further notice.

Affected residents should bring their water to a rolling boil for one full minute before consumption.
