The City of Scott is looking into a new ordinance that if passed will affect RV owners in the city.
Scott Mayor Pro Temp Jan Richard introduced an ordinance at the city’s council meeting Thursday, September 3rd. He says a neighbor in his subdivision came to him with concerns about an RV parked in front of someone’s lawn.
The city’s code and ordinance enforcer came out to investigate the issue and found that someone was living in the RV and the home that it was parked in front of. Richard says the city is in no way against RV use, in fact its home to one of the biggest RV parks in Lafayette Parish.
The ordinance, if passed, would only allow RVs to be used inside of the city’s RV park.
Larry Albritton owns an RV and is from Scott, he says he agrees. “I don’t agree with living in an RV in your residential area or in your driveway because you can look around; you have chairs out and awnings, you have the power of sewerage, fresh water, electricity.”
The city of Lafayette passed a similar ordinance in 2012 which Richard says will serve as an outline for the city’s attorney if the ordinance is passed.
The council will vote on this issue at its city council meeting on October 1st.
