LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Comeaux High School’s baseball team was the target of an afternoon burglary Sunday, we were told burglars kicked in a window unit and stole $4,000 worth of equipment and personal items from the team.

“The situation is just sad,” said head baseball coach Jeramie Broussard.

Comeaux High’s head baseball coach Jeramie Broussard said whoever did this came in through a window unit on the back of the locker room.

“The burglarers crawled through the hole and then they proceeded to take as much equipment as they could.”

Gloves, bats, sunglasses and other personal items were taken from the player’s lockers.

“You know baseball is baseball we can always get other items, but at the same time, some of them were cherished by the players. For example one of our players had a hat that his dad has given him as his first gift. It was a UL hat, not that big of a deal, but it was something special to him.”

This comes just six days after another burglary on Comeaux’s campus. Lafayette police officer Karl Ratcliff said police are working with the school to beef up security.

“We are taking measures and working with them and highlighting ways that they can keep this from happening again.”

Broussard said he is working to get the team individual locks for their lockers.

“I plan on supplying them with the locks myself because it’s one thing for that to happen but we just need to make sure we are better prepared, even though the doors were locked someone found a way in.”

Several parents teamed up with coach Broussard and are working to raise money to replace some of the items taken.
