Community rallies to support law enforcement

Lafayette, La. (KLFY) – Many supporters and law enforcement showed up for the Acadiana United Peace Rally in Parc Lafayette Wednesday night.

With many prayers and events around Acadiana since violence in Baton Rouge, organizers Adam Aucoin and Corey Seneca said they hoped the Acadiana United movement keeps going.

“This is a domino effect and if every community around the nation spreads it, we’re going to be a force to be reckoned with,” Seneca said.

“On Facebook, we’ve had people outlying reaching out, from Crowley to Baton Rouge to Opelousas. I think that’s pretty amazing,” Aucoin said.

Around 50 people came to show support Wednesday night for law enforcement. In turn, law enforcement came for the much-needed support.

“I think every police officer in this country had a hole in their heart last Sunday. It was a terrible day for our profession,” Kip Judice said, Duson Police Chief.

Judice said he never expected this kind of support.

“In my 34 years of law enforcement, I’ve never felt this. I guess they are the silent majority. And I guess it took a tragic incident to bring it out to the forefront. And it’s so much appreciated,” Judice said.

While this is just one way to give back to law enforcement, Seneca said anything is possible.

Both Seneca and Aucoin said they hope to keep the Acadiana United Movement going, hosting events every 6 months to a year.
