In a matter of seconds, at least ten vehicles crashed into each other near the Evangeline Thruway exit eastbound on I-10. Several vehicles were towed and both lanes were shut down in the middle of rush hour.

Cornell Comeaux who lives in Bayberry Pointe subdivision and heard the crash Thursday evening.

“I was watching TV and I just heard multiple crashes…police men were crossing the median and everything.”

Tressa Victor spoke with the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the wreck who said he had to slam on his breaks when the car in front of him suddenly stopped.

“The truck behind him stopped and the 18 wheeler behind it smashed it into his truck…the man was airlifted and two women were brought over the median to an ambulance”

Victor adds that while speaking with people involved in the crash she was told that the gentlemen who was airlifted had just recovered from another wreck. Damage to vehicles ranged from dents and scratches to smashed fenders and bumpers. Comeaux spoke to a family member of one of the women in the pile-up.

“Her mom got sandwiched between vehicles. When I talked to her she said it was her mom’s birthday and I don’t know where they were going. The car was so bad she didn’t understand how her mom survived the crash because the car was smashed from the front and the back.”

The Lafayette Police Department is investigating the crash and reports minor injuries.
