A convicted felon is reportedly back behind bars where he is recovering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to the Lafayette Police Dept. Spokesperson Corporal Bridgette Dugas, police were called to a business in the 4500 block of Johnston Street Monday night in reference to an accidental weapons discharge.
When police arrived on scene, Dugas said they found 37-year-old Brandon Meaux suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.
Police say Meaux was in possession of the weapon when it accidentally discharged, however does not have a conceal carry permit.
He was transported to the hospital and treated for his injury.
Due to his status as a convicted felon, police charged him with felon in possession of a firearm, possession of firearm on premises where alcohol is served, illegal carrying of a weapon, illegal discharge and obstruction of justice.
