OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY)—A Crowley man found sleeping in his car at an intersection was arrested after narcotics were found in his car according to authorities.
A spokesperson with the Opelousas Police tells KLFY that yesterday around noon, officers observed a BMW stopped at a green light with traffic driving around the vehicle at the intersection of Railroad and Vine Street.
According to a news release, when officers went to investigate, they saw the driver, Ronderick Nelson, of Crowley, asleep at the wheel and a handgun in the center console.
The officers stated that they smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car.
Officers woke up the driver and seized the gun for safety.
During the course of the investigation, police say they found 10oz of Crystal Meth, 1oz of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and approximately $600 in cash.
Nelson was charged and booked for:
- Standing, stopped, or parking prohibited in specified places
- Driving vehicle while license is suspended
- Possession of a firearm of concealed weapon by a person convicted of a felony
- Possession with intent to distribute scheduled II drugs
- Possession of scheduled I drugs
- Illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of a CDS
- Determination of drug paraphernalia
- Transactions involved proceeds from drug offences
