In addition to graduating, students at David Thibodaux Stem Magnet Academy are taking on a big initiative–restoring broken bikes to give back to those in need.

After hearing Bike Lafayette call out for help, an engineering teacher at David Thibodaux signed his students up for the task.

Bike Lafayette has over 200 bikes that need to be restored and given to the less fortunate in the community.

The eighth-graders are using their stem skills to figure out what parts are needed to restore and fix the the bikes.

One eight-grader says this is more than just a project to her, but a way to become a problem solver in the community.

“And we’re helping them.”
