LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – A man and a woman have been arrested after authorities say they discovered a mobile methamphetamine laboratory in their vehicle.

Lafayette Parish sheriff’s deputies pulled over the suspects for equipment violations earlier this morning in the 700 block of W. Broussard Road.

Captain Dwayne Prejean, a spokesperson for the Lafayette Metro Narcotics Taskforce, said the driver gave consent for authorities to search the vehicle, where they found a “clandestine methamphetamine lab.”

Authorities then seized meth lab materials, a half gram of meth manufactured from the mobile lab, over two grams of “high-grade” marijuana, and two glass pipes with drug residue.

The confiscated drugs have a combined estimated street value of $146.

The suspects, Gabriel W. Landry Jr., 62, of Kaplan, Melody Elkins, 46, of Hammond, were both arrested and charged with creation or operation of a clandestine laboratory, possession of schedule II narcotics – methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Landry was additionally charged with possession of schedule I narcotics – marijuana.

Elkins was additionally charged with resisting an officer by providing false information. She was also wanted on a warrant from the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office for nonsupport of parent.

Both are currently in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center. A court date has not been set for either Landry or Elkins.
