YOUNGSVILLE, La. (KLFY) – Lafayette Parish Sheriff Mark Garber says deputies have contained a situation involving what they believe is a suspected explosive device.

Deputies initially responded to the 200 block of Windsong Drive in Youngsville earlier this afternoon to a report of a felon in possession of a firearm.

Garber said as deputies began their investigation, they located what they believed was a possible explosive device.

At that time, they cleared the scene and contacted emergency medical services, the Lafayette Fire Department Hazardous Materials Unit and the Louisiana State Police Emergency Services Unit.

The Louisiana State Police ESU was able to render the device safe and deputies arrested Anthony Mark Caldwell (52) of Youngsville.

Caldwell was on probation with the Louisiana Department of Corrections on a charge of arson that originated in Calcaseau Parish.

Caldwell has been charged with the following crimes, however, additional charges may be added or modified based on a continued investigation.

Charges: Felon in possession of a firearm, manufacture of an incendiary device, possession of schedule I narcotics (Methamphetamine) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
