LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)—Cajun field was packed as the Ragin’ Cajuns kicked off their first game of the season.
Acadiana spent the last three weeks recovering after the devastating flood, but the water didn’t stop Ragin’ Cajun fans from cheering on their team.
A sea of red and white filled Cajun Field on Saturday as fans celebrated the first game of the season.
“It’s really a relief. My house flooded also, but we got all of that behind us. I wanted to come out here and enjoy the Cajun’s game.” Said Lawson Rouly, “I only had six inches, but it was still enough to change a foot of sheet rock and it’s the same process for six inches as it is for two feet.”
Rouly wasn’t the only fan who was affected and came to cheer on the Cajuns.
Jessica Gurzi works at Outbk, she said the restaurant was under water and they are still dealing with the aftermath.
“It’s nice to come out and everyone’s smiling. It’s kind of crazy to think that this happened just a few weeks ago and everyone is enjoying themselves. That’s Lafayette for you.”
Even the fans from the visiting team were amazed by the resilience of Acadiana. Denis Kirtley said she wasn’t sure if she was going to come because of the flooding. She added that Cajun’s fans are some of her favorite out of any away games she goes to.
