Opelousas, LA (Humane Society of La.) – Hoping to help its colleagues in Central Louisiana, the Humane Society of Louisiana is coordinating a pet food and supply drive to help the efforts of the St. Landry Animal Control and Rescue Center, located at  255 Hanger Rd, Opelousas, La.  (https://thehelp4slpac.com/). The shelter is currently housing more than 301 dogs,21 kittens, 15 cats, 21horses, and an assortment of smaller animals, such as rabbits, iguanas, and hamsters. To help the center keep up with its ever-growing population of surrendered, seized, and rescued animals, the Humane Society of Louisiana, based out of New Orleans, is asking for donations of cat and dog food, litter, and hay (square and round bales), and horse feed. The shelter is also in need of cleaning supplies such as bleach, mops, paper towels, and blankets. Petco gift cards are also accepted. Volunteers are needed to socialize with the animals, walk the dogs, and clean cages.

Donations may be mailed or dropped off during normal business hours Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. The facility is closed Saturday and Sunday. The shelter’s mailing address is 255 Hanger Rd, Opelousas, LA 70570

“This is one of the hardest working group of people in our entire state and they deserve no less than our collective help and support. They have come to our aid several times, so it’s only fair for us to help them,” says Jeff Dorson, HSL Director.

The donation drive will last until April 15, 2019.  For more information, please call the shelter at 337- 501-9100.
