LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)- Lafayette police have charged the student with one count of terrorizing.
After the text was reported on Wednesday, Lafayette Police worked with school officials to determine if there was any legitimate threat posed to the campus.
Yesterday, detectives identified the person responsible for the post by tracing the IP address from which it originated.
After the boy was taken into custody, the he reportedly “admitted to creating the post simply in an attempt to cause panic and disrupt school proceedings,” police said.
As a precaution, the school’s campus was investigated and cleared.
“The Lafayette Police Department would like to take this time to advise the public that we will investigate any perceived threats to any school in our community and hold accountable the individual(s) found to be responsible. We encourage parents and teachers to discuss the severity and consequences of making these kinds of threats. We will not take them lightly and will take action up to and including arrest.”
