The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has crews putting out about 3,000 sandbags Monday afternoon on eastbound I-220 lanes in Bossier Parish.
On Friday, the LA DOTD closed westbound lanes on I-220 from Benton Road to the Red River Bridge due to high water.
Some of that high water from the westbound lanes made its way to the eastbound lanes. DOTD has crews putting sandbags on the inside eastbound lanes to stop it.
The eastbound lanes remain open, but traffic is slowed.
DOTD officials say people slowing down to take pictures and videos of the roadway may be contributing to the traffic delay.
Additionally, the I-220 Westbound on-ramps at Airline Drive and Benton Road are closed, and the I-20 Eastbound and I-20 Westbound off-ramps to I-220 Westbound are closed.
The closure is blamed for ongoing delays and congestion along other major routes in the area as drivers seek detours.
