LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) As the push for growth in downtown Lafayette continues, the search for a new CEO of the Downtown Development Authority is currently underway.

The new hire will be asked to build on what Geoff Dyer has done since he was named interim CEO in 2016 then later permanent CEO.

“Geoff moved us into the planning phase,” said Miles Matt, newly elected chairman the Downtown Development Authority.

The need to find the perfect fit is crucial, considering how important the downtown sector of the Hub city is to the overall economy.

“Downtown is still core of Lafayette Parish,” Matt said.

Gregg Gothreaux, the president and chief executive officer of the Lafayette Economic Development Authority, says it may make sense to split the job into two different hires.

“Combine community planner and leader or split positions up,” Gothreaux said.

Right now there’s no official target date for the hire. The goal is to narrow it down to as few candidates as possible and get someone in place by September.

“The perfect candidate can put together projects to help get us funded quicker,” says Matt. “They would also review projects and more downtown forward.
