Police are investigating a single-vehicle accident that killed three people on Louisiana Highway 113.

Spokesman Daniel “Scott” Moreau of the Louisiana State Police says troopers responded to the crash around 2 p.m. Saturday. He says the driver, 70-year-old Michael O. Perkins, lost control of his SUV and exited the left side of the roadway. Moreau says the vehicle then entered a ditch before colliding with a tree.

Perkins was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. He was later pronounced dead. His two passengers, identified as 69-year-old Janice N. Perkins and 88-year-old Marie F. Powell, also died as a result of the crash. All three were from Pitkin, Louisiana.
