Narcotics and Illegal Firearm Arrest:

OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY)- On Thursday, a traffic stop for a inoperable brake light led to the seizure of marijuana, synthetic marijuana, ecstasy and .380 cal. pistol, the Opelousas Police Department said.

Approximately 11 p.m.,  OPD special operations officers stopped a vehicle near the intersection of St. Cyr Avenue and Madison Street in reference to inoperable brake light.

“The pistol in itself would not have been illegal but due to the fact that it was located in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance constituted  the illegal possession of a firearm,” the department said.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 24-year-old Steven Roberts, of Opelousas, was subsequently booked at the St. Landry for the following:

  • Tail lamps required
  • No driver’s license
  • Possession of schedule I narcotics 3 cts. (marijuana, synthetic marijuana, and ecstasy)
  • Illegal possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance

Roberts’ bond was set at $11,150.
