BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) – K9 Koi, an officer with the Denham Springs Police Department, will receive a protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from a non-profit organization.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is donating the vest, which is designed to protect against bullets and stabbings.

Koi’s vest will be sponsored by Jessica Brighenty, Julie Brighenty-Fitzgerald, and Friends and will be embroidered with the sentiment, “In honor of John Henry Brighenty.” The vest is expected to be delivered in the next eight to 10 weeks.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a charity located in East Taunton, MA. Its mission to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies across the US.

The company was established in 2009 to assist law enforcement agencies with life-saving body armor for their four-legged K9 officers. The company has provided more than 3,200 protective vests.

K9 Koi is a 2.5-year-old Belgian Malinois who has been on duty with his partner, Joseph Babin, since September 2018.
