The Calcasieu Parish schools will offer six credit hours of dual enrollment with McNeese State University to high school seniors interested in pursuing a degree in education.

There will be a three-credit-hour course offered online in both the fall and spring semesters, and all expenses, including registration fees, will be paid by the school system.

The courses will count as both high school and college credit. To be eligible, seniors must have a 2.75 GPA and ACT scores of 19 for math, 18 for English and 18 composite.

The American Press reports that Sheryl Abshire, the district’s chief technology officer, will teach the courses.

Abshire says for students who are taking other dual-enrollment courses, these additional two courses can give them nearly an entire semester of college completed.
