A Duson family is looking for help after a fire destroyed their home.

The fire happened Saturday afternoon.

The house is located in the 5000 block of West Congress Street.

Family members say they’re thankful no one was hurt.

Daniel Silvas, said, “We just got to put our hands up and leave it to God.”

Daniel Silvas, his wife, Belinda, their son and grandson, and several pets were in the home when the fire started.

“I was laying down. I was fixing to take a nap because my back was hurting real bad and my wife was standing right here looking for a jacket to put on and she was the one that said it smells like something is burning. The next thing you know, all of a sudden, the fire just blew up,” added Silvas.

Both Daniel and his wife are recovering from surgery.

“It’s been really, really rough,” explained Silvas. “I had back surgery. She had back surgery.”

The Silvas returned home Friday night not knowing the next night… their house would be destroyed.

Diana Hollier’s son, and the Silvas’ grandson, was inside the home at the time of the fire.

“My phone rings again and it was him (son) and all I could hear was him screaming ‘the house is on fire the house is on fire’ and all I could say was get out,” said Hollier.

Silvas said, “It was traveling on the ceiling. It burned all the way to the other wall where our TV was and everything that’s in here is destroyed. A lot of it is all of our clothes and a lot of jewelry.”

“Right now, they’re living in a little bitty hotel room. Just the two of them,” added Hollier.

Silvas said, “With the prayers and with believing in God, we can all make it.”
