The State Fire Marshals’ office has charged a man with arson in connection to house fire on Kevin Lane in Duson.

31-year-old John Vinciguerra III was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center last Friday, as a fugitive for an outstanding warrant from the SFM for one count of Simple Arson.

He is awaiting transfer to Acadia Parish Jail to be booked on the arson charge, officials said.

On March 1, the Duson Police Department requested the assistance of the SFM in determining the origin and cause of a house fire located in the 100 block of Kevin Lane.

After an assessment of the scene, investigators determined the fire began on a mattress and was intentionally set.

During the investigation, deputies learned Vinciguerra had been taken into custody by Duson PD after he admitted to setting the fire and got into an altercation with responding officers.

While receiving treatment for his injuries, Vinciguerra was hospitalized for a mental evaluation.

Following his release, he was taken into custody in Lafayette and remains in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on unrelated charges.
