Duson police are trying to locate two people involved in a theft at a Duson casino. It happened early Saturday morning. 

Duson Police Chief Kip Judice says the incident was premeditated, and likely has occurred to other businesses in the past. 

31-year-old Cary Gordon Bastian and 32-year-old Abby Marie Doan of Vermilion Parish are wanted in connection with the theft. 

The Duson Police Department received a call Saturday morning that the casino’s clerk had determined that her cash drawer was several hundred dollars short of what it should’ve been. 

Officers responded and reviewed surveillance video footage which showed two suspects in connection with the theft. 

“These types of crimes occur obviously more often in the holiday season, but it’s always an ever-ending battle with people,” says Chief Judice. “These casinos will put in place certain safeguards and so these individuals try to find a way to defeat that.” 

According to Duson Police chief Kip Judice, Abby Doan lured the cashier away from the cash drawer. 

“Eventually tells the clerk that the machine has locked up and it’s not giving her options. The clerk and the security guard both leave the area where the money is stored,” explains Chief Judice. 

That’s when Cary Bastian steps in to steal the money. 

“He reaches over. He accesses the cash register and removes several hundreds of dollars in U.S. currency from that cash drawer.” 

News Ten reports, “Do we know specifically how much they took?” 

Chief Judice says, “So we haven’t disclosed a total amount of money taken by these individuals, but I will tell you that it’s not a sufficient amount of money to cover the amount of bond that’s going to be issued in regard to what they did.” 

Chief Judice says that this couple pre-planned this theft and believe it’s not their first time doing this type of incident. 

“Criminals are always think of another way,” adds Chief Judice. “One step ahead of where law enforcement and technology is so with that being said it’s just a matter of time before they get caught.” 

Chief Judice says they both have extensive criminal histories and Bastian is also wanted in Texas.
