Duson police have identified two people killed in a head-on collision on Wednesday night.
The crash happened at about 6:15 p.m. on Austria Road, also known as Mire Highway, near Interstate 10, according to Duson Police Chief Kip Judice.
Investigators said a Ford Focus driven by Edna Coffman, 56, of Lafayette, was heading south and crossed the center line on Austria road just north of Interstate 10.
Coffman’s vehicle began to hydroplane left and crashed into a Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Frederick Bihm, 60, of Rayne, which was traveling north.
The crash forced the Focus off the roadway, killing Coffman and her 31-year-old passenger Matthew Williams, of Mire.
Bihm and his passenger were taken to a local hospital and treated for moderate injuries.
No obvious signs of impairment were detected, however standard toxicology tests are pending on both drivers, Judice said.
The investigation is ongoing.
