Lafayette Parish School System officials have released preliminary data on how many students will transfer to Katherine Drexel Elementary and Broussard Middle next year.

Last week, the school board approved a zone modification, with some students leaving Green T. Lindon Elementary and Youngsville Middle for school sites in Broussard.

Assistant Superintendent Sandra Billeaudeau said the preliminary breakdown for students going from Green T. Lindon to Katherine Drexel is as follows:

–Five pre-K students

–26 kindergarten students

–24 first grade students

–21 second grade students

–14 third grade students

–20 fourth grade students

Billeaudeau said the preliminary breakdown for students going from Youngsville Middle to Broussard Middle is as follows:

–20 fifth grade students

–18 sixth grade students

–18 seventh grade students

–11 eighth grade students

However, the numbers had not been completely finalized as of late last week. Officials have indicated they would like the oldest students to try to remain at their current schools if possible, meaning some fourth and eighth grade students could stay at their existing school next year.

Officials estimate about 200 students will transfer next year. All subdivisions, homes and streets within the east side of North Larrivierre Street, Fairfield Street, St. Etienne Road, Sugar Land Drive and odd address north of Young Street will be affected.
