Missing since the initial installation of the public art piece, the “Y” pruportedly skipped town, refusing to be tied down to a single spot.
According to the Downtown Lafayette’s Facebook page, after a brief stint on Sesame Street, he fell on hard times as other letters eclipsed his popularity.
Found mangled and distressed in a nearby coulee, the “Y” is recovering from its long ordeal and is promising to put down roots.
Citizens are rejoicing, citing sore arms and selfie fatigue.
DLU CEO Geoff Dyer commented early Sunday morning:
“We were relieved to finally locate the “Y”. Asking private citizens to stand in for Y has been such an embarrassment. It is so important to not let park improvement projects like this stand uncompleted. Recovering the “Y” and giving it a forever home is exactly the kind of lasting impact we strive to bring our Downtown community.”
