EUNICE, La. (KLFY)—A Eunice man arrested after a victim said he was trying to burn down a house.

Authorities with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office tell KLFY that deputies responded to a disturbance in progress on Jacob Road in the Eunice area.

The caller reported that Eugene Chambers Jr. was at the residence attempting to burn the house down.

A sheriff’s deputy arrived at the scene and say he noticed a male, who was identified as Chambers standing in the front yard carrying a metal pipe.

Authorities say Chambers began shouting at the deputy saying that the house and property were his and that he would do whatever he wanted to.

According to officials, Chambers was ordered several times to drop the pipe but instead raised the pipe over his head and approached the deputy on the scene.

News 10 is told that after several commands from the deputy for Chambers to drop the pipe and not approach the deputy any further resulted in Chambers to drop the pipe. When the deputy attempted to handcuff Chambers, he began to resist arrest according to officials.

The victim at the scene stated she, along with six children who are between the ages of 2 years to 13 years of age were forced to leave the residence when Chambers threatened to burn the house down. The victim states that Chambers while threating to burn the house down was pouring gasoline around the outside of the house.
