IBERIA PARISH, La. (KLFY) – If you’re just traveling through Iberia Parish or in New Iberia one thing you can expect to see is road construction

Several of Department of Transportation and Development projects underway around Acadiana are bound to slow traffic this holiday season.

Drivers in Iberia Parish will notice crews re-striping sections of Highway 90.

“As well as replacing a lot of those pavement markers that you see; and we’re going the Iberia Parish line basically all the way down to Terrebonne Parish line. It’s a 65-mile project,” Deidra Druilhet, of DOTD, told News 10.

There’s a four-mile project nearing completion along St. Peter Street in New Iberia.

“We’re not only doing an overlay in that section but, before we can do the overlay we are making great improvements to the drainage in that area,” Druilhet said.

During heavy rain, St. Peter Street is among the first to go under water.

11-year resident Anthony Boutte says he hopes the flooding problem is eradicated, “When it rains a lot, people can’t pass through. It’s flooding here pretty much. They say it’s going to help the drainage and I am hoping it really does work.”

“Hopefully he does fix it (the flooding) because people have to pass through that daily,” another resident, Kasey Pepper said.

To minimize your chances of road rage or even getting stuck in traffic, one thing you can do is, plan ahead, choose an alternate route and of course give yourself some extra time to reach your destination.

For commuters or those heading out to get some holiday shopping done, DOTD lists construction projects and working times on their website at
