Fire crews in Lafayette fought a fire at a home late Saturday night.
The fire broke out shortly after 10 p.m. in the 400 block of W. Bachert Street, according to Lafayette Fire Department Spokesperson Alton Trahan.
No one was home when firefighters arrived on scene and discovred flames venting through a rear window, Trahan said.
It took firefighters about 10 minutes to get things under control, he said.
An extension cord plugged into a window air conditioner unit overheated, resulting in the fire being ruled as accidental.
The interior of the home sustained moderate fire and smoke damage, he said.
The Red Cross was called to assist because the homeowner did not have insurance, Trahan said.
