Lafayette, La. (KLFY) –  A Lafayette family lost everything in a fire Wednesday afternoon.

Mom, dad and four young children were not at home at the time of the blaze which happened in the 500 block of Row 1.

Firefighters say a neighbor walking in his yard noticed heavy smoke coming from the home and immediately dialed 911.

They arrived and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the master bedroom window.

It was quickly extinguished but not before the interior of the house sustained heavy smoke and fire damage.

Investigators believe an electrical short was the cause of the fire.
