An arrest has been made in last night’s deadly shooting in Ville Platte. Tyron Jack, 19, was taken into police custody today.
The victim, 27-year-old Terry Serie, was shot in 600 block of North Soileau Street.
After further investigation, Jack was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of attempted second-degree murder on Friday, according to Ville Platte police.
“I know everybody has to go, but my child didn’t have to go like that. He shot him like he was a dog and my child is not a dog,” said the victim’s mother, Dora Cullivan Serie.
Serie’s family said the shooting happened after an argument during a basketball game.
“He went to the basketball park towards Parkview. I was told. I never seen it. He had three fights,” she said.
She said her son, Terry Serie Junior, was followed by at least 15 boys to their neighborhood. “I tried to divide them. This is how I got the injury on my wrist. And then another one came from nowhere then slammed us on this iron right here,’ she added.
After one call to police and a trip to the hospital, Serie and her sister returned home looking for answers from “TJ” about the fight.
“So he turned around to tell me what happened at the park and before he could finish…” The victim’s aunt, Sarah Ann Thomas Doucet, said the alleged suspect in custody, Tyron Jack, began shooting from just feet away.
“So I ran by the tree. He shot him another time. I guess by the tree he hit my leg. So I fell on the ground. He shot him again,” said Doucet.
She said “TJ” began running for his life after getting hit by multiple gun shots. His mother watched it all unfold. “Not what I wanted to see. But I seen my child. I seen my child shot in my face,” said Serie.
“And I hollered, you killed him,” said Doucet.
With several witnesses outside, Jack fled the scene. “I thank God my baby did not suffer,” she said.
The investigation remains ongoing; anyone with any information is asked to call (337) 363-1313.
