BATON ROUGE, LA. (WWL) Nick Tullier is breathing on his own again.
Tullier, one of the Baton Rouge law enforcement officers wounded in the July 15 police shooting, was taken off his breathing machine and is now on a regular oxygen feed through his trachia according to a Facebook post from his family.
“They’ve removed Nick’s head bandages to allow for air to keep the head wound areas dry. Going to have some scars on the left side of his head, but we can live with that,” the post reads. “He is off of the breathing machine and on the regular O2 feed to his trach. Been breathing well.”
Tullier’s family said every day he is alive is a miracle.
“He has only gotten here through the power of prayer,” Tullier’s family wrote. “For that we thank you all very much. I know you will, but I have to say, please keep praying. He’s fighting but has to have your prayer support.”
Dep. Nick Tullier was shot by a lone gunman targeting police officers when he responded to a call of shots fired at the B-Quik gas station on the morning of July 17.
Fellow officers Cpl. Montrell Jackson, Officer Matthew Gerald and Deputy Brad Garafola were killed during the attack.
Deputy Bruce Simmons and Officer Chad Montgomery were also wounded, but released from the hospital a few days after the shooting.
