The family of a young man shot during a reported robbery Sunday in Basile wants answers. They’re accusing the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office of failing to provide medical attention in a timely manner.
The sheriff’s office promptly returned our call at KLFY News 10’s. They informed us it’s an ongoing investigation for the allegedly crime and anything related to it.
Shantel Richardson and Stacey Gallow say their 18-year-old nephew Bailey Richardson was shot during a reported robbery and was in need of medical attention.
Richardson says she heard Bailey sustained gunshot wounds to the arm and side. “Pretty much the information that I need is if he’s okay because he was shot in the ribs and arms,” Richardson said.
Richardson says when they finally got answers the next day they were told he denied medical attention.
“That doesn’t sound nothing like him. That doesn’t make no sense. If you get shot, you want someone to see about you man. He had scratches and stuff before; you think he’s going to refuse some medical attention for a gun wound,” Richardson added.
Gallow says she’s concerned too about the time between when her nephew was shot and got medical heolp. “From the time it happened to the time that he was going to the doctor why? That’s what I want to know. Why did y’all take so long,” Gallow said.
In terms of the alleged crime and Bailey’s reported involvement? “I’m not concerned with that right now. We’ll deal with that later when we get to that. I’m just concerned if he’s ok,” Richardson noted.
