SHREVEPORT, La. (KLFY) – A federal jury has returned a not guilty verdict for Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal on all four charges of civil rights violations in the 2011 case of inmate abuse at the Iberia Parish jail.
Lt. Gerald Savoy, a current top ranking officer, and nine former employees of the sheriff’s office pleaded guilty earlier this year to charges over the jail beatings.
The local district attorney has dismissed more than 100 criminal cases connected to the officers who pleaded guilty.
KLFY’s Dalfred Jones is at the federal courthouse in Shreveport and will have a live report on News 10 at 5 and 6 p.m.
