LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)—FEMA is warning flood survivors to beware of inspector fraud.
According to the government, FEMA will not ask you for financial or payment information up front.
FEMA inspectors also will not ask you for your FEMA registration number or social security number.
A news release states that flood victims should beware of any inspector that seeks payment from you, especially if they promise disaster grants in return.
To ensure that you do not become a victim of inspector fraud, ask to see the inspector’s ID prior to the inspection.
If you suspect inspector fraud, call your local law enforcement immediately and then the FEMA Disaster Fraud hotline at 866-720-5721.
