A Ragley woman died Friday night after she was struck and killed by a vehicle while standing in the travel lane of U.S. Highway 171 in Beauregard Parish.

According to State Police, just after 9:00 p.m. they responded to a crash involving a vehicle that struck a pedestrian on U.S. Highway 171 at Felice Cutoff Road.

Police say a preliminary investigation has revealed that the driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee, 68-year-old Henry Edwards of DeRidder was traveling north and struck the pedestrian in the road.

She has been identified as 45-year-old Emma Ryder of Ragley.

Police say she was thrown into the ditch by the impact and pronounced dead at the scene by the local coroners office.

Toxicology samples were taken from the driver, who was not injured, and will be submitted for analysis, according to police.

The crash remains under investigation.
