Festival International celebrates Francophone cultures

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Festival International de Louisiane is a place to celebrate the flare and flavor of all things international.

And it’s this type of attraction that brings people right here to Lafayette from all over the world.

Festival International is a festival that celebrates international Francophone cultures.

“Mostly it’s a celebration of sort of Francophone cultures above all else but there’s an off a lot of those. They were Francophone communities all across the world,” Festival International board member Istvan Berkeley tells News 10.

Each year thousands from all across the country pile into the streets of downtown Lafayette.

“It’s got a lot of Louisiana a lot of openness and character it’s got a lot of sense to it and emotion it’s great to keep it alive we’re having a great time,” festivalgoer Dennis Schrantz, from Michigan, said.

Fambodgie Kaba traveled here all the way from West Africa. She says it’s a great way to learn and experience other cultures

“It is very interesting to see everything like different stuff in Africa that you don’t see,” Kaba said.

Berkeley says not only is it a great way to learn about other cultures, it gives us a chance to share ours.

“So it’s an opportunity for us to show our culture two people from all over the world, so it’s fabulous.”

It really is amazing to just walk around and see all the different cultures that are displayed throughout the festival grounds.
