The Foodnet Food for Families Food Drive will be held Tuesday in various locations across Acadiana.

What you donate in your community stays in your community.

The Crowley Christian Care Center serves roughly 500 families per month in Acadia Parish.

Marilyn Lawson, who sits on the board of directors, says the food donations they receive are distributed to people in need as soon as possible.

“Whatever we have we give it to the clients. We don’t hold it but we pass it on to them,” Lawson says.

Jeannette Edwards visits the care center to help feed and clothe her child.

“I come here to get clothes and food and everything for the kids. at the end of the month things run low for me because I’m disabled and I get a monthly income,” she says.

Each person who requests food receives one or two bags of groceries per month, depending on the number of people in the household.
each bag contains the necessary ingredients to make a meal… so when you donate food, keep that in mind.

“If you’ve got some kind of chicken or tuna fish and you got some rice and you’ve got some pasta, you can make a nutritious meal out of that peanut butter… if you’re feeding kids you can give them peanut butter, that’s nutritious, says Lawson.

And all the clients, like Edwards, understand the importance of giving.

What I have in my cabinet that I get throughout the month what I don’t use bring,” she says.
